Bengali is the fourth language in the world by number of first language speakers. It is the prime language in Bangladesh, West Bengal and Tripura in Eastern India. This book has been written to satisfy the need of a modern textbook in Bengali as a foreign language on the basis of English-Bengali bilingual liaison, along with transcriptions in IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) in order to facilitate pronunciation.
There are 50 simple letters in Bengali, whereas English has only 26. The Bengali alphabet is quite different from English alphabet. Yet Bengali is an easy language. Bengali pronunciation closely follows its spelling. However, Bengali has two difficult features.
The first trouble with Bengali as a foreign language is its innumerable conjunct letters, many hundreds in its traditional or aged orthography. The simple letters in Bengali may be combined to built conjunct letters as short-hand signs. People who learn Bengali as a second or third language have difficulties with so many conjunct signs.
The second trouble aries due to the absence of a vowel sign for the first vowel letter in Bengali. Learning a foreign language is really difficult if the vowels are not shown in the orthography.
There are ten lessons in this book which are designed pedagogically. The first part of the book deals with Bengali letters and words. An English speaker, starting from her/his own background, becomes acquainted with some speech sounds which are useful in Bengali pronunciation. Then she/he learns letters and signs used in Bengali word-building.

The second part of the book deals with Bengali sentence-making and grammar. The contens of this part are desigend to make Bengali easy for foreigners, specially for those who will learn Bengali as a third language. Only the parts of speech, tense and case is dealt in grammar.
Throughout the book we have used phonetic transcriptions in IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) in order to ease pronunciation.

The ten lessons of this book are enough to enable a learner to read and comprehend stories and poems in Bengali and to understand Bengali speech sounds to chat in Bengali.

Throughout the book the Bengali texts are transcribed in IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) to ease pronunciation. Although the Bengali Easy Orthography is used in this textbook, yet Bengali spelling using those dissectable conjunct letters in the traditional orthography is presented vis-a-vis by using comparably smaller letters.

BENGALI EASY ORTHOGRAPHY
The hardest barrier in learning Bengali as a foreign language, Bengali as a Second language or a Third language, is the presence of hundreds of conjunct letters and signs. The conjunct letters are like shorthand signs. It is an advantage in hand-writing. But the use of computer-keyboard and other computer facilities in Bengali is laborious and painful because of the presence of numerous conjunct letters. Dissociation of the conjunct letters was tried for decades without success.
The main problem is the pronunciation. The origin of the problem and its solution has been presented by Babulanam and Beena (Journal of Computers and the Humanities (Netherlands), vol 33, No. 3, p. 241-245, (1999)). It is suggested that nearly 30 intial conjunct letters (used as initial letter in world-building) may be kept intact while the others could be dissociated if a missing letter sign (') was raised for the unborn first Bengali vowel (back-lower vowel, belonging to the first vowel letter in Bengali, has no sign to be added with a consonant letter). Then only 108 signs were sufficient in Bengali Easy Orthography. This orthography appears to be the appropriate one in order to reduce the total number of signs in Bengali from a half thousand to a hundred only.
Bengali Easy Orthography was developed in Sweden while teaching Bengali as a third language by hermeneutic method.

BÖNBOK FÖR MUSLIMSKA BARN är skriven i första hand för muslimska barn och ungdomar som har svenska som första språk. Men en vuxen muslim kan också gå igenom boken för att komma ihåg något som man kanske har glömmt bort.
Vi börjar med två heliga satser som alla muslimer måste kunna utantill. Sedan berättar vi hur muslimerna ber under fem bestämda tider dagligen. När man har läst den här boken, klarar man alla obligatoriska (fard) böner: morgonbön två rakat, middagsbön fyra rakat, eftermiddagsbön fyra rakat. Hon/han har lärt sig hur man gör en försenad bön, middagsbönen på fredagen som kallas Djumuyabönen och kollektivt obligatoriska begravningsbönen.
Sedan beskrivs de två halv-obligatoriska bönerna på festdagarna Eid al-fitr och Eid al-adha. Till sist beskrivs den obligatoriska fastan under månaden Ramadan och den frivilliga men ändå viktiga Tarawih-bönen. Denna kunskap räcker till för att leda en bön som Imam när två eller fler personer ber tillsammans (muslimer har inga präster). Muslimernas bön är ganska enkel och lätt att lära sig.
Arabiska används ofta i muslimsk bön. Nästan alla muslimer kan läsa arabiska, men flesta av dem förstår inte språket riktigt. Vi omskriver det arabiska uttalet med Internationella bokstäver som är alla språks gemensmma tecken.

En kväll satt jag och vilade i en länstol i mitt sovrum och tänkte lite lättjefullt på den indiska kvinnans situation. Jag är inte säker på om jag somnade till eller inte. Men så vitt jag minns, var jag klar vaken.
Jag såg helt tydligt den månklara himlen som gnistrade av tusentals diamantliknande stjärnor.
Helt plötsligt stod en dam framför mig; jag vet inte hur hon hade tagit sig in. Jag tog henne för min vän Syster Sara.
“God morgon!” sa Syster Sara.
Jag log för mig själv, eftersom jag visste att det inte var morgon utan stjärnklar natt. Men jag besvarade hennes hälsning: ”Hur står det till?”
”Tack, jag mår bra. Kan du vara snäll och följa med ut och titta på vår trädgård?” sa hon.
Jag tittade på månen en gång till genom det öppna fönstret och tänkte att det inte kunde göra något att jag gick ut vid den tiden på dygnet. Tjänarna därute sov vid det här laget och jag kunde få en skön promenad med Syster Sara.
Jag brukade gå på promenader med Syster Sara när vi var i Darjeeling. Många gånger har vi gått hand i hand och pratat sorglöst i den botaniska trädgårdar där.
Jag tänkte att Syster Sara nog hade kommit för att ta mig till någon sådan trädgård, så jag accepterade genast hennes erbjudande och följde med henne.
Medan vi promenerade upptäckte jag till min förvåning att det var en vacker morgon. Staden var helt vaken och på gatorna var det liv och rörelse. Jag kände mig väldig förlägen vid tanken på att jag gick på gatan mitt på ljusa dagen, men jag såg inte till en enda man.
Några av de förbipasserande skämtade om mig. Trots att jag inte förstod deras språk, var jag säker på att de skämtade.
”Vad säger de?” frågade jag min vän.
”Kvinnorna säger att du ser manlig ut.”
”Manlig!” sa jag, ”Vad menar de med det?”
”De menar att du är blyg och försagd som män.” sa hon.
Blyg och försagd som män!
Det var verkligen ett skämt.
Jag blev väldig nervös när jag kom på att min vän inte alls var Syster Sara, utan en främling. Åh, vilken dumbom jag har varit som tagit denna kvinna för min kära gamla vän Syster Sara.
Eftersom vi gick hand i hand, kände hon hur mina fingrar darrade.
”Men kära vän, hur är det fatt?” frågade hon snällt.
”Jag känner mig lite besvärad,” sa jag med ett ursäktande tonfall. ”Eftersom jag är en purdanshin kvinna, så är jag inte van att gå omkring obeslöjad.”
”Du behöver inte vara rädd att stöta på någon man här”, sa hon, ”Detta är det kvinnolandet Naristan, fritt från synd och faror. Dygden själv härskar här.

Foreword Nota Bene
Atman in Sanskrit means the soul or spirit, an immaterial entity integrated or assimilated in a living body, is a well-known prehistoric conception. The relation of Atman to a body appears to be synonymous to that of the epigenes to the genes. The twins from a single egg look alike because of identical DNA, but become different by epigenes, for example, - in fingerprint, behaviour and cognitive achievement. Human are 99.9% alike in their 25000 genes, but may be distinct in Atman like that between dogs and wolves.

Veda in Sanskrit means science or knowledge. Atman Veda studies the congruence of philosophy, theology and science in a model-dependent realism where both theological and scientific models are true depending upon the frame of observation. The life quality is described in Atman Veda for four qualitatively different human groups: A, B, C and D, plus three more groups AB, BC, and CD. The qualitative and quantitative life score of a person presented in Atman Veda is subjective, arbitrary and changeable during ones life-period, and the score may differ largely between self-grading and in the grading by an observer.

Introduction to Model of Atman
In Atman Veda, we describe qualitatively different models of Atman borne today by Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Humanists. Then a model independent life quality score is outlined at the end of the book.
Atman is an immaterial entity which cannot be detected by our five senses. The prehistoric and ancient model of Atman being a material entity that could be detected by our five senses existed to a large number of people until a few generations ago.
“It is here”,- said my paternal grandfather, “Where our young Hindu Zamindar Babu of Ganga Mandal Pargana made his experiment nearby his court in Burichong in an attempt to catch the Atman which we Muslims call for the Ruha”. Only a few worn-out lightly red brick-walls stood in four stacks as the witness for that experimental set-up to catch the postulated yellowy green Atman. The experiment was an open secret which was stopped after three futile attempts and the little house was demolished.
My grandfather was quite young when he for the first time followed his father on foot to Burichong, ten kilometres east of our village, for the payment of yearly land revenue. The court was situated on the other side of the river Gomati, and twenty kilo-metres north of the town Comilla, a part of the Kingdom of Tripura annexed to British India.To cross over the river Gomati was a dangerous task. It was very turbulent during the rainy season. During the dry season the river was covered by quicksand over which one must walk very quickly, otherwise get sunk in it. My first and last visit to Burichong was during a spring in 1950s. But, later I always in my life recalled my lesson how to go fast over quicksand.
When the Atman-experiment was performed, India was ruled by the British, and Calcutta was the capital. Ganga Mandal Pargana then belonged to Tripura district. At that time it was said, -“What Bengal thinks today, India thinks it tomorrow.” The hypothesis of Bengali physicist S.N. Bose of Dhaka Univesity led later to the discovery of boson. Another Bengali Bose from Dhaka, botanist J.C. Bose discovered that plants also had lives. However, the scientist did not notice that Indian widows also had lives. It was Guru Rabindra Nath Tagore who discovered that many Indian widows had drowned themselves by fastening water-pitchers across their necks, in order to prove that they were not lifeless. But what is life, and what is the Atman or the soul?
Then our Zamindar Babu living in Burichong, perhaps inspired by the discovery of Rabindra Nath Tagore, planned to catch the Atman or the soul. His men constructed a water-pool indoors, and a large box of glass which was open downside. The glass box could be lifted up, and it could then put down over the water pool air-tight. An Atman escaping from inside of the glass-chamber would then be imprisoned, and thereby could be examined.

Preface
The Celestial galaxies have been fascinating me since my childhood. Once upon a time, when I was about five years old, it came to me that my biological mother was dead who had become a star. I searched her many years in the dark sky among millions of stars and wept before I fell asleep in my bed. Then at the beginning of my teens I got an insane dream to become an astronaut travelling through Inter Galactic Space for hundreds of years under anabiosis (life suspension), awaking up between arrival and departure from destinations. This fantasy began to fade away in the middle of the first one Giga second period of my solitary life. It was replaced by a Virtual Milky Way which had its centre not a Giant Black hole, but the tiny Planet Earth.
This perception grew strong in me in the year 1970, not due to halucination from addiction to chemical or spiritual high, but during segregation in 26-cells of Dacca Central Jail as UT-5619, for a period of 50 Mega Seconds, as a detainee in a Kafka case of treason under a special tribunal.
On the break of the day, the morning sunlight fell over my face while I was still lying over a blanket on the cemented floor of the cell, and looking at the rising sun what I could see first was the gallows beside the 8-cells, over the interior wall, which was about 50 meters away from my cell. I had been there in the fourth cell of 8-cells for a fortnight before I was moved to 27-cells. Then I met there Badiuzzaman in the first cell and Rashid in the second cell who were condemned to death, and were waiting for the execution. Both of them were in their early twenties.
Badiuzzaman wept when he spoke to me of his sins of adultery and of his innocence in the case of State-Bank Colony murder. Rashid sat motionless, pale and dumb near the grills with an empty look at the sky. The Santri told me that Rashid became speechless when he was sentenced for the killing of his aunt, which was actually committed by his jealous uncle, the plaintiff of the case, in order to dismiss his claim over the joint land property. Badiuzzaman and Rashid were locked 24 hours in their respective cells under the watch of a gunman outside their cells. Both of them got meals of better quality than that of mine, and they kept under vigilant health-care. However, I was allowed to come out for an hour for stretching my legs within 30 meters long and 5 meters wide area during the forenoon and the afternoon.

The 27-cells which was also called the Mental, was the most open and most green area in Dacca Central Jail. Here I passed the most peaceful and the laziest part of my life. "The Iron grills of the jail do not know to cheat"- wrote Rabindra Nath Tagore in his short story "Cloud and Sunligtht". He was astonishingly right although he was never in jail. Looking at the sky behind the bars, during the nights or the days, cloudy or clear, colourful or colourless, beautiful or frightening, I knew I could own a galaxy of my own if every man in the Earth, dead, living or unborn, got an equal share of the Universe containing a thousand billion galaxies. What would then I do with my private property of a galaxy containing a million stars, most of which are larger than the Sun, and a millions of planets like the Earth which were however, unsuitable for DNA's to survive and reproduce. It would then be no better than sitting alone day and night in a segregated cell behind the iron bars from where I could see every early morning how a house-wife stretched herself to hung a wet sharee upon a wire on the roof of a three-storied building at Urdu Road. The dozy Wind hugged her as if she was Anjana, the cute mother of Honuman, when she was busy to put aside her clumsy wet hair over her forehead. The blushing Sun peeped climbing upon the konakbarana hill Udayachala at a speed one thousand six hundred kilometers per hour, to flirt her with his rajatdhara as if she was virgin mother Kunti in the epic Mahabharata.

Around 1800 AD a man nicknamed Arai was born and brought up in the village of Gohali in the hilly tracts of Mainamati in Bangaldesh. These hilly tracts witnessed the ancient Buddhist civilisation from 1000 AD. There were some other hilly areas nearby Mainamati which were called Lalamai (thered soil). In persian language a hill is called Koh. Where the two hilltracts, Mainamati and Lalmai met att a business centre at the bank of the river Gomati, the place was called Koh-mila (presently Comilla). Mainamati is about seven kilometrs from Comilla town.
Arai was married in the village of Madhyanagar and had two sons and one daughter. The village Madhyanagar was a plain and marshy land, about ten kilometers from Gohali in Mainamati. The elder son of Arai was named Jagid Ali and the younger son was named Jahir Ali. The name of his daughter is not known. She was given in marriage in the village named Nalla, at the eastern side of the river Gomati.
In the middle of that century the entire hilly area of Mainamati was confiscated by the British governament to establish a military cantonment. The inhabitants of Mainamati refused to leave their homes and they resisted. It resulted a in a clash between the government forces and the local people. During the clash an unknown number of villagers were killed. But four men of the government forces also succumbed to death. Many of the villagers were captured and put to trial. Arai could flee away. Most of the relatives of Arai were latter rehabiliated in the villages of Noapara, Daiyara, Haorapara and Jangalia around Comilla town but Arai remained absconding for more than 14 years till he died.
Arai disguised himself as a fakir and he moved here there in the jungles years after years. For a period of years he made a sheltar under an exeptionally big mango tree in the village of Sripur, seven kilometers south-east of Mainamati. At that time this area was a dense jungle where tigers could be seen occasinally. It is guessed that Arai died in the village of his father-in-law, in Madhyanagar, and buried there.
Arai's two sons were brought up at their maternal grandfather's home in the village of Madhyanagar. Afterwards they moved to the village of Allahabad (or Elahabad), the neighbouging village of Sripur. Allahabad or Elahabad is a big village which is about 5 kilometers in length. They settled at the south-east part of the village which was a jungle. The eastern part of the village of Allahabad was a historically renowned area where a disciple of Hazrat Shah Jalal had settled a few hundred years ago (at "Ut Khara" : his tired camel remained standing there and would not go further) and it is said that he renamed the village as Allhabad or Elahabad.
Jagid Ali had two sons: Amiruddin and Akram Ali. Jahir Ali had only one daughter: Ayesha @ Esha or Sara. But Arai's daughter who was given in marriage in the village of Nalla became widowed. She had three sons. Probably their father had died before the death of their grnadfather and therefore, by Islamic law, they did not inherit any property of their grandfather. They moved to Allahabad and lived together with their maternal uncles. When Jagid Ali died, Jahir Ali could not manage to keep the nephews together. Amiruddin and Akram Ali separated and made a house of their own at the eastern side of the his home. Jahir Ali gave his five acres of land to his sister's son who had promised to look after his wife Fuljan and his daughter Ayesa.
But after Jahir Ali's death, his daughter Ayesha (or Sara) and her mother could not live together with Arai's daughter's sons and they moved to Amiruddin and Akram Ali's house. Ayesha was given in marriage to Ali Mahmud in the village of Alua, situated at the other side of the river Gomati. Akram Ali was married to Ali Mahmud's sister.
A genealogical saga is narrated by Muhammad Abdul Malik (1913-1996), the son of Abdul Hamid and the grandson of Akram Ali in the book Halkhata.

Ändå var jag tvungen att försvinna så fort en främling närmade sig. Män ägde naturligtvis inte tillträde till de innersta rummen. Därför led jag aldrig av dem. Men kvinnor tilläts ströva omkring ganska fritt där inne, så för dem var jag tvungen att gömma mig. Byns kvinnor kunde komma på oväntade besök. Då gjorde någon omedelbart tecken och så fick jag söka upp närmaste gömställe: köket, inne i tjänsteflickors hoprullade sovmattor eller kanske under någon säng.
Jag fick springa och gömma mig precis som en liten kyckling springer till sin mamma så fort hönan ger en varningssignal om att en glada eller hök närmar sig. Men det fanns en skillnad. Den lilla kycklingen har sin föreskrivna plats, –under mammans vinge, –att gömma sig på. Jag däremot, hade inte någon sådan av naturen bestämd säker tillflyktsort.
Dessutom uppfattar kycklingen hönans varningssignaler instinktivt. Men, stackars mig, något sådant instinktivt förstånd hade inte jag! Därför hände det ibland att jag tolkade signalerna fel och inte hittade till något gömställe snabbt nog. Vid sådana tillfällen tvekade aldrig de välmenande kvinnorna i familjen att skälla ut mig för att jag uppförde mig ’skamlöst och oanständigt som en modern slampa’.

It is November 2011. For three decades in exile I have been writing many encyclopaedia in my neurons which is perfect for lazy me. Now-a-days the retrieval of information stored in my neurons is often become hampered due ageing of the internal network within the grey matter, and often I have to wait very long time to get it tranferred into my working memory. So, before much of the internal network of my local neuron centres cease to function satisfactorily, I wish to keep some brief notes about remarkable materials of one of my encyclopaedia here in black and white.
Thus, BANGLADESH WITNESS 5619 STILL ALIVE IN EXILE is an attempt to save a copy the presently retrievable information from my biological memory and transfer that to my computer memory before more and more information are lost forever.

The incarnation of Rahu and Ketu today as Israel and residual Palestine having the cursed cityJerusalem as their bastion is apparent. The risk of the planet Earth to be detroyed by the bite of incarnated Rahu’s nuclear teeth is million times more than that by collision with a celestial body or entering into a celestial black hole. Preface
IT & www is a well known term in this age i.e. internet technology and its world wide web. The two other phenomena which have the same abbreviation is Israeli terrorism and Islamic terrorism (along with their respective www) which are the two faces of the same coin, begotten in the same womb of world imperialism, claiming genealogical inheritance of the same ancestor, while their caps they wear are of various sizes, from S, M, L and XL or XS of wonderful patterns and fascinating colours, all bearing the same smell of Prophet Abraham’s rotten sperms. I came up with the idea of writing about “Israeli Terrorism and it www” which I perceived as the unconscious weapon of history to wake up the Muslim world which was lagging behind as the Red Indians of America and fighting like them today against Israeli terrorism and its www. On the other hand Israelis in Europe were like the British in India, integrated, but not assimilated because of their higher civilisation than of the Euro-Aryans.
In Indian mythology, the 10th and last incarnation of God to Earth before Doom Day is as avatar Koli. While in the 21st centrury, we observe Globalization and two antagonistic principal force in their last struggle are Israeli terrorism and Islamic terrorism. Israeli terrorism and its www rests on 10 million Zionists organised under Mossad which is like Indian deity MahaKali, having four arms, the right two: CIA and SIS, and her left two: RAW and FSB. She gets her strength from two billion homosapiens spread over the world who have faith in the oracle of God's son: "The dogs belonging to the house are to get something to eat".

This observation is from an Indo-Aryan perspective. In Indian mythology, the Demon Rahu became immortal by stealing the drink "Amrita", but cut into two by God Krishna's divine wheel: Rahu and Ketu. Today, the world-peace is passing under an eclipse. The devotees of Rahu and Ketu are spread all over the Earth. The hypocentres of Rahu and Ketu are West and East Jerusalem. To differentiate Rahu’s and Ketu’s is not easy as the Anglo-Saxons had problem with the Chinese and Japanese during WWII. In light of the on going WWIII based on the Rahu’s and Ketu’s dispute over "The Cursed City" which creates political earthquakes and occasional eclipse of world-peace, this review is a self-criticism.

Ruhul and Rahela

Ruhul was an Engineer and Rahela a writer, the wife of Hakim, the Director of NSI (National Security Intelligence) of East Pakistan. Ruhul was active in student politics and the President of the Liaquat Hall Students Union (Menon Group). His family name was however Sikder and the first name Siraj. He rebelled against the Communist Party dictation and formed “East Bengal Worker’s Movement” with a hypothesis that East Bengal had been turned into a colony of Pakistan. Siraj Sikder got first class in Engineering in 1967 but inspired by the “Red Guard Movement” he went to his own village Damodya in Madaripur to organise the poor peasants. Whimsically, on a bid he married a young daughter of a poor peasant. Ruhul faced soon family problem.

Rahela was the house wife of Hakim, the Director of NSI (National Security Intelligence). Her real name was however, Jahanara who used to write poems and articles in the Women’s Monthly Begum. She had two young sons to nurse but she had conflict with her husband because of her feminist views. Director Hakim cordoned her and prohibited her movements outdoor. But she managed to escape with the help of her maternal parallel cousin Rokanuddin of S M Hall of Dhaka University who introduced her to his leader Siraj Sikder alias Ruhul Alam. Jahanara got a peudonym Khaleda and she got a sheltar in a house of two policemen in Dayaganj.

Comrade Sattar together with someone named Maola hastily founded CPM of Bangladesh just after independence in order to prevent Kazi Zafar who had the same plan. The party CPM of Bangaldesh had only 17 members which arranged a public meeting at Baitul Mukarram after advertising of it in the Daily Newpapers. During Sattar's speech, suddenly a few Awami goondas jumped up on the satge just when Sattar had condemned the evictions of the innocent Biharees from their homes, killing Biharee men and children, looting their belongings and raping the girls and women. The police who were set for the safety of the meeting joined together with the veteran Awami goondas to beat Comrade Sattar. They dragged the speaker from the stage. Sattar was so severely beaten that he lost his consciousness. His backbone was broken and he was put into Dacca Central Jail as an enemy independence although he was a genuine freedom fighter who had been a group commander in Khulna after a short training in Calcutta under auspices of his father's friend Abdul Aziz MP. After being beaten in the meeting at Baitul Mukarram, Sattar was imprisoned for years without trial under the code President Order 50, which was non-bailbale. He was however happy because his full message was broadcasted by BBC.
